Severe Injury Hit and Run Traffic Collision NR21003ll

January 5, 2021

Los Angeles: Detectives from the
Los Angeles Police Department’s Central Traffic Division are
seeking the public’s assistance in identifying the suspect
responsible for a hit and run traffic collision that severely
injured a man.

On January 3, 2021, around 9:55 p.m., a male Black pedestrian was
crossing 61st Street and Broadway. The pedestrian was crossing
Broadway, in the crosswalk; however, he was going against the
“Don’t walk” signal and was attempting to reach the southeast
corner of the intersection. A vehicle travelling northbound
Broadway collided into the pedestrian, catapulting him into the
air. The pedestrian landed on the street. The driver briefly
stopped, then drove off northbound Broadway without rendering aid
or identifying herself.

The Los Angeles Fire Department personnel responded to the scene
and transported the victim to a local hospital. The victim was
admitted for his severe injuries and is in stable condition.

The vehicle is described as a 2000 to 2010, four-door beige sedan,
equipped with a sunroof, with possible damage to the hood and front
end. The vehicle has a shattered windshield. The driver is
described as a female Black, approximately 30 to 40 years old,
appeared to be heavy set, and wearing a beige hooded sweatshirt.
There was also a male Black passenger, approximately 30 to 40 years
old, with braided hair, and was wearing a white t-shirt.

Drivers are reminded to drive at a safe speed and if you become
involved in a collision, you should pull over and stop as soon as
it is safe to do so, notify emergency services, and remain at the
scene to identify yourself.

On April 15, 2015, the City Council amended the Los Angeles
Administrative Code and created a Hit and Run Reward Program Trust
Fund. A reward of up to $25,000 is available to community members
who provide information leading to the offender’s identification,
apprehension, and conviction or resolution through a civil
compromise.

The videos obtained will be posted on LAPD Central Traffic
Division’s YouTube account, “LAPD Central Traffic”.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Juan
