Residential Robberies and Hot Prowl Burglary in West Los Angeles

August 11, 2004

"Residential Robberies and Hot Prowl Burglary in West Los Angeles"

Los Angeles: On August 10, 2004, at around 9:30 p.m., the residents of a single-family home in the 1500 block of San Remo Drive, surprised a robbery suspect while he was stealing jewelry from the master bedroom. The suspect, described as a 25 year-old male Black, wore a ski mask and was armed with a handgun. The victims activated an alarm and ran out of the residence.
It was later determined that the suspect entered the location by cutting the screen to a rear patio door. Circumstances suggest the suspect was aware that the victims were awake and actively moving about their residence before he entered the location.
At around 10:20 p.m., the residents of a home located in the 10900 block of Chalon Road in Bel Air was hosting a birthday party with numerous guests. A witness observed a lone male Black suspect going through purses in an upstairs bedroom and alerted the homeowner. The suspect was wearing a black ski mask and was armed with a handgun. The suspect jumped off a second story balcony and left the location on foot. It was later determined the suspect entered the home through the open front door. He then ransacked an upstairs bedroom before to being seen by the witness. Circumstances suggest that the suspect was aware that numerous partygoers were actively moving inside the residence before he entered the location.
When patrol officers from the West Los Angeles Police Station responded to the Chalon Road location, they were contacted by the next door neighbor who said that a suspect entered their home through an open door and took personal property including jewelry and cash. The victims also said that they were awake and moving around the house at the time of the burglary.
It is believed that all three crimes are related. No suspect vehicle was seen or heard at any of the crime locations. In addition, a Bloodhound dog attempted to track the suspect from the Chalon Road, but was unsuccessful.
The Los Angeles Police Department is requesting the public’s assistance to identify and locate the suspect responsible for these crimes. Anyone with information is asked to contact the West Los Angeles Detectives at 310-575-8441 during normal business hours. On weekends or after hours, contact the toll free 24-hour number at the Detective Information desk at 1-877-LAWFULL (1-877-529-3855).
