"Open House / Crime Awareness Fair"

Van Nuys – On Saturday, May 6, 2000, between 10:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., the Van Nuys Area Community Police Station will be having an Open House/Crime Awareness Fair. The event, sponsored by the Mid-Valley Community Police Council (MVCPC), will be held at the Van Nuys Civic Center Mall located at Van Nuys Boulevard and Erwin Street.

The Open House will include representatives, displays and demonstrations by various entities within the Police Department, such as S.W.A.T., McGruff the Crime Dog, C.E.C.A.T. (Community Effort To Combat Auto Theft) Unit, Valley Traffic Division, Communications Division (Police Service Representatives), D.A.R.E. Display, Narcotics Group (Narcotics K-9 Unit), Recruitment Officers, Bomb Squad, and the Police Historical Society.

Community groups invited to participate include City of Los Angeles Representatives, the Los Angeles Public Library (Book Fair), California Highway Patrol, United States Marine Corp, United States Air Force, and Department of Aging.

There will be many activities including station tours, clowns, face painting, and a moon bounce for children.

The Los Angeles Police Department is now hiring and will be on hand to administer the written test. Testing will begin at 11:00 a.m. sharp!

This is a free event, there is plenty of free parking and we are looking forward to sharing the day with our community!
