LAPD Disperses Illegal Rooftop Concert and Crowd in Newton Division NR25110dm

May 28, 2025

LOS ANGELES: On the evening of Saturday, May 24, 2025, LAPD Newton Division officers were conducting targeted patrols in the area of 16th Street and Trinity Street, an area known for illegal warehouse parties. Officers discovered an unauthorized rooftop concert spanning two parking lots in the 1700 block of Trinity Street. In addition, the LAPD received community calls reporting a large disturbance at the location.

Officers confirmed the event was a concert promoted on social media without the property owner’s permission. The owner verified the attendees were trespassing and requested their removal. A rooftop fire was also reported, prompting a response from the Los Angeles Fire Department, though firefighters were unable to intervene until police secured the area.

Efforts to peacefully disperse the crowd were met with escalating hostility. Fireworks were launched at the LAPD helicopter, and officers on the ground were struck with projectiles. As the situation intensified, officers declared an unlawful assembly and deployed less-lethal munitions to regain control. Four officers were injured during the confrontation.

In addition to injuries, the incident resulted in significant property damage, including vandalism to four MTA rail cars, one LAPD patrol vehicle, and several local businesses. Vehicle and rail traffic along Washington Boulevard was temporarily disrupted.

The Los Angeles Police Department is seeking the public’s assistance in identifying the suspects involved in the violence and vandalism. Anyone with information or video footage is urged to submit tips anonymously at LACrimeStoppers.org.
