Gruesome Fatal Hit and Run Traffic Collision NR19325jc

December 11, 2019

South Los Angeles: The Los
Angeles Police Department’s South Traffic Division detectives are
asking for the public’s help in providing any information that
would lead to the identification and arrest of the suspect involved
in a fatal hit and run that occurred at Avalon Boulevard and 81st
Street. The hit and run collision resulted in the death of
47-year-old Mr. Rufino Miranda.

On December 4, 2019, around 9:20 p.m., a black Ford Fusion was
traveling southbound on Avalon Boulevard when it struck Mr. Miranda
as he was crossing the street. The force of the impact caused him
to become lodged on top of the suspect’s vehicle’s hood and
windshield area. The black vehicle continued southbound on Avalon
Boulevard with Mr. Miranda still lodged on the hood of the vehicle
for approximately 150 feet. The suspect aggressively pressed on the
brakes forcing Mr. Miranda off the vehicle and onto the roadway.
The suspect then fled southbound on Avalon Boulevard failing to
stop and render aid to Mr. Miranda as required by law.

Mr. Miranda was transported by the Los Angeles Fire Department to a
local hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.

Drivers are reminded that if they become involved in a collision,
they should pull over and stop as soon as it is safe to do so,
notify emergency services, and remain at the scene to identify
themselves.

On April 15, 2015, the City Council amended the Los Angeles
Administrative Code and created a Hit and Run Reward Program
Trust Fund. A reward of up to $50,000 is available to community
members who provide information leading to the offender’s
identification, apprehension, and conviction or resolution
through a civil compromise.

Anyone with information about this collision is asked to contact
