Chief Charlie Beck’s Monthly Media Availability Featuring the Launch of “Obey the Rules of the Road” Public Service Announcements NA14230SF

News Conference regarding current crime statistics, to provide information regarding upcoming LAPD events and to launch the public awareness campaign to promote traffic safety.

WHY:    
To discuss LAPD related issues, crime statistics and give members of the media the opportunity to make comments and ask questions.  Additionally, the LAPD’s Central Traffic Division (CTD) has embarked on an on-going public awareness campaign to promote traffic safety and the “rules of the road.”  During the news conference, three, 30-second Public Service Announcements (PSA’s) will be premiered and made available for viewing on local television stations, social media platforms and other outlets.  

The three PSA’s feature celebrities that have volunteered their time to participate in this important project.  The PSA Hands Free to Live features “NYPD Blue” and “Caprica” star Esai Morales, Don’t Lose features “Mike and Molly” star Reno Wilson and Stay, features “In the Heat of the Night” and “Murder in the First” star Anne-Marie Johnson.  All of the featured artists plan to attend the news conference and will be available for interviews.

The Hands Free to Live PSA focuses on distracted driving.  The Don’t Lose PSA promotes bicycle safety and Stay concentrates on hit and run accidents.  Ms. Anne-Marie Johnson, daughter of retired LAPD Sergeant Joseph Johnson, co-created, co-produced and co-directed the PSA’s with CTD Officer David Marroquin.  A team of talented LAPD Officers also assisted with the project under the supervision and guidance of Captain Ann Young.

VISUALS:    
The three, 30-second PSA’s will be viewed at the news conference.  In addition, DVD copies of the PSA’s will be distributed during the event and made available with Spanish and Korean subtitles.
