Los Angeles: The Los Angeles Police Department’s (LAPD) Force Investigation Division is investigating an In-Custody Death (ICD) in 77th Street Area.
On May 18, 2025, around 10:00 a.m., 77th Street Patrol Division uniformed officers responded to a radio call of an attempted suicide in the 3000 block of West 59th Place. The call indicated that a male, later identified as 22-year-old Kamar Morrison, had broken a neighbor’s window and was stabbing himself in the neck.
When officers arrived, they encountered Morrison on the floor, covered in blood, while repeatedly stabbing himself with a piece of the broken window frame. The officers directed Morrison to stop numerous times and quickly intervened by pulling the object from his hand.
After requesting an ambulance, the officers handcuffed Morrison and attempted to render medical aid until paramedics arrived. Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics responded and transported Morrison to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased.
No officers or other community members were injured during this incident.
Force Investigation Division (FID) investigators responded and are investigating this incident.
