Mural Contest Promotes Traffic Safety Awareness

Wilmington – In September of 1999, The Los Angeles Police Department, West Traffic Division, along with The National Hot Rod Association (NHRA), The Automobile Club of Southern California (ACSC), Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA), and the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD), created a "Traffic Safety Mural" contest for all middle schools in the Los Angeles basin to participate. All middle schools entering the contest were instructed to paint a mural on their school campus depicting traffic awareness. Representatives from Otis College of Art and Design chose the winning middle school.

The National Hot Rod Association, Automobile Club of Southern California, and Specialty Market Association donated money and supplies to all schools participating in the contest. Dunn Edwards Corporation donated the paint.

On Tuesday, June 6, 2000, at 10:00 a.m., the involved organizations will honor Wilmington Middle School for being selected as the winner of the mural contest. The event will take place at:
