Beeping Egg Hunt for Visually Impaired Children NA19047ti

April 10, 2019

LAPD Rampart and Eagle & Badge Foundation to Host Annual Beeping Egg Hunt for Visually Impaired Children WHAT: Beeping Egg Hunt Builds Sensory Awareness for Blind Students

WHEN: Friday, April 12, 2019 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

WHERE: Blind Children’s Center 4120 Marathon St. Los Angeles CA 90029

WHO: Mitch O’Farrell, Councilmember 13th District LAPD Commander Ruby Flores, Operation Central Bureau LAPD Captain Al Lopez, Rampart Area Commanding Officer LAPD Rampart Division, Eagle & Badge Foundation AT&T Pacific Pioneers Club.

WHY: On Friday, April 12, the students of the Blind Children’s Center will dart across the playground in search of colorful beeping eggs. Located in the heart of Hollywood, the Center is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that offers free early intervention services and educational curriculum for young children who are blind or visually impaired. The Center’s staff believes that every child including those who are blind or visually impaired, should be able to participate in an egg hunt, and this is exactly what will happen at the annual Beeping Egg Hunt.

The 20 year-plus tradition was first developed at the Blind Children’s Center by the Officers of Rampart Division, volunteers from the AT&T Pacific Pioneers and funded/supported via the Eagle & Badge Foundation. Each class, ranging from preschoolers to 2nd graders, will be assisted by their teachers and uniformed Officers as they venture through different areas of the Center’s playground in search of sound-emitting eggs. This special tradition that originated at the Blind Children’s Center in Hollywood has caught the attention of many, similar events are now being held at numerous schools and community organizations across the country. The Center’s mission is to foster the development and education of children-birth through 2nd grade-who are visually impaired in an inclusive, family-focused setting.

CONTACT: For questions, contact Eagle & Badge Foundation President/LAPD Sergeant Marc Rojas, at 38527@lapd.online, or 818.355.9639.
