LAPD Lead Girl Scout Troops to Sell Cookies at Three Police Stations NA19013ne

February 19, 2019

WHAT: Three different LAPD lead Girl Scout troops will be selling

WHEN: Friday, February 22, 2019 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm

WHERE: 77th Street Community Police Station, 7600 S Broadway, LA 90003 Southeast Community Police Station,145 W. 108th Street, LA 90061 Newton Community Police Station, 3400 S Central Ave, Los Angeles, CA 90011

WHO: LAPD Officers and Girl Scouts ranging in age from 6 to 11 comprised of three Girl Scout levels: Daisies, Brownies and Juniors.

WHY: Several years ago, the Los Angeles Police Department established the first-ever Girl Scout Troop in the inner-city as part of the Community Safety Partnership (CSP) program. With few community resources and recreational facilities in these areas, the establishment of Girl Scout Troop 19785 (named after LAPD’s Southeast Station which opened in 1978) at Grape Street Elementary School was a major development. It gives young participants opportunities to connect and reinforces the positive concepts associated with Girl Scouts of America (GSA): strong character, positive values, personal responsibility and academic excellence.

The Girl Scout Cookie Program plays a powerful role in developing financially savvy girl leaders. Girl entrepreneurs learn valuable interpersonal and business skills via the cookie program that help them become successful in their future careers, no matter what path they choose. When you buy Girl Scout Cookies you are not only helping girls become business trailblazers, you’re also helping them power their Girl Scout adventures and ensuring they have access to unique leadership experiences and opportunities that only Girl Scouts can offer.

There is a total of 145 Girl Scouts, ranging in age from 6 to 11 and comprised of three Girl Scout levels: Daisies, Brownies and Juniors being mentored by LAPD Officers. CSP funding through the Housing Authority of the City of Los Angeles provides all the girls with uniforms and patches, and because of the program’s success, it has been replicated at another school in the neighborhood, Murchinson Elementary.

CONTACT: Sergeant Heidi Stoecklein (714) 222-7079

VISUALS: Excellent interview opportunities and interaction with LAPD officers and Girl Scouts.
