Department Store Burglary Suspects NR19031ma

February 11, 2019

Los Angeles: The Los Angeles
Police Department’s Commercial Crimes Division, Burglary Special
Section detectives are seeking the public’s assistance in
apprehending a burglary suspect who was identified in a burglary at
a department store in Topanga Division.

On July 6, 2018, around 1:45a.m., two suspects, who concealed their
identity with hoodies, gained entry into a large department store
via the roof hatch door. After prying open the locked door, both
suspects walked down a flight of stairs and activated internal
motion detection sensor alarms.

Security surveillance video shows the suspects walk to the Fine
Jewelry Department. The suspects used a crow bar and sledge hammer,
combined with sheer physical force, to smash open the glass
displays. They removed the jewelry from a total of six glass
displays, totalling approximately $700,000.00.

At various junctures during the burglary, both suspects were seen
on surveillance camera repeatedly kicking the tempered glass in
order to gain access to the jewelry inside.

Detectives conducted interviews and processed the scene, recovering
evidence that eventually identified suspect Marvin Carter and
suspect Michael Bourgois.
