City of L.A. Crisis Response Team (CRT) now Recruiting – October 2012 NR12461cn

Los Angeles:  The Mayor’s Office would like to invite the community to become a "civilian" volunteer member of the Mayor’s Crisis Response Team (CRT) Program.

The Crisis Response Team (CRT) is composed of professionally trained "civilian" community volunteers who respond to traumatic incidents at the request of the Los Angeles Police and Fire Departments. CRT volunteers provide immediate on-scene crisis intervention, attend to urgent victim needs, act as a liaison between the victim and emergency personnel, and give referrals to victims and their families affected by traumatic incidents. The CRT program is managed by the Mayor’s Office of Homeland Security & Public Safety in collaboration with the City’s Fire and Police Departments.

The training is seven-weeks long and begins Monday October 15, 2012.  It will take place on each Monday and Wednesday evening through December 5, 2012 at the Los Angeles Police Headquarters in downtown Los Angeles.  Class is from 6:30 pm until 9:30 pm.

We are in particular need of volunteers with bilingual capability in Spanish or Korean.

     • Emergency Hospital Room Protocol with E.R. Social Workers.
     • The County Coroner Protocol and the Victims of Crime Programs.
     • Suicide Aftermath Support w/ Suicide Prevention Center.
     • The Grief Process in Adults and Children.
     • Traumatization & Crisis Intervention Principles and Skills.
     • Diverse Populations: Working with the Elderly and People with Disabilities.
     • Cultural & Religious Diversity with L.A. City’s Human Relations Department.

OTHER GUEST SPEAKERS INCLUDE: Representatives of the Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health, Los Angeles Unified School District Mental Health, the City’s Disabilities Department, and additional collaborating agencies.
