Los Angeles: The Los Angeles Police Department’s (LAPD) Force Investigation Division is investigating a Law Enforcement Related Injury (LERI) that occurred in Central Division.
On June 14, 2025, at around 6:35 p.m., Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) uniformed officers, along with multiple other law enforcement agencies, responded to mass protests that were occurring in downtown Los Angeles.
During a crowd control mobile field force operation, LAPD officers established a skirmish line. A suspect, later identified as 27-year-old Jack Kearns, broke through the skirmish line. An officer assigned to 77th Street Area discharged one round from a 40mm Less-Lethal Launcher (LLL) at Kearns and a Law Enforcement Related Injury (LERI) occurred. Kearns was taken into custody without further incident. Officers requested a rescue ambulance, which transported Kearns to a local hospital. Kearns was admitted for an injury to the back of his head.
Force Investigation Division (FID) investigators are investigating this incident. No other community members or officers were injured as a result of this incident.
